Our Director of Music, David Evans, is an accomplished flautist, teacher and conductor.
He studied privately with Peter Lloyd before winning a scholarship to the Royal Manchester College of Music where he was a student of Geoffrey Gilbert.
His professional playing career included such diverse orchestras as the Icelandic Symphony, the Brazilian Symphony and the Hallé as well as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Ballet.
He has taught at the Royal Manchester College of Music Junior Department, and also in Iceland and Brazil.
David has conducted in Brazil and Italy and was Musical Director at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. He is currently on the music staff of the City of London Girls’ School.
Emily Richards BMus, PGDip (TCM)
Emily Richards graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2005 with a BMus Honours degree.
She spent the following year working as a graduate music assistant at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset.
Between 2006 and 2008, Emily studied at Trinity College of Music with Elizabeth Turnbull and graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance with Merit. She has also received masterclasses from Ivo-Jan von der Werff and Garfield Jackson.
Emily was a finalist in the 2008 Vivian Joseph Classical Concerto competition at Trinity College of Music.
She has played with many groups, both chamber and orchestral, including the National Youth Music Theatre, Trinity College of Music Symphony Orchestra, Trinity College String Ensemble, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Pauls (Convent Garden), Wessex String Quartet, Dovetail Quartet and the Prince Regent String Quartet.
Emily teaches the violin, viola and piano in the London area and enjoys a career as a busy freelance musician.
